Pure Foods Tasmania promotes Robert Knight to CEO
Pure Foods Tasmania has promoted Robert Knight to CEO and managing director, effective 1 July. Knight is described as the company's largest shareholder and has been a director since October 2024.
Malcolm McAully, who has served as executive chairman since July 2024, will step back to a non-executive chairman role. McAully noted his appointment was always intended to be interim, focused on key turnaround initiatives.
In terms of Knight's contributions so far, he played a central role in expanding the company's presence in Coles stores from around 300 outlets to approximately 800, re-establishing Costco as a customer, and leading the acquisitions of Elato Ice Cream and Brilliant Food Australia.
On the financial side, Pure Foods Tasmania reported a net loss of A$2.8m for the 12 months to June 2025, an improvement on the prior year's A$3.9m loss, though annual revenues fell 28% to A$5.4m — partly attributed to the deliberate exit from unprofitable product lines.
The appointment is framed as providing alignment between management, shareholders, and the board as the company pursues its strategy of acquiring and integrating premium food businesses with established product-market fit.
